From Sunrise Point you look down on a crowd of red hoodoos packed into the amphitheater, spires with blue sky in the gaps. Sunset Point and Inspiration Point look into that same amphitheater. A paved Rim Trail ties Sunrise to Sunset, and you walk the rim without moving the van. You sleep on the rim inside the park, at North Campground or Sunset Campground.
As of September 2026, North Campground is open all year, Sunset Campground closes in winter, and both are reservation-only through Recreation.gov. They fill by noon on weekends from May through October. Lock the site before you lock the van.
In shuttle season, vehicles over 23 feet are kept out of the amphitheater parking, and you ride the shuttle to the viewpoints. Capitol Reef is the next night on the loop.
Capitol Reef
Orchard rows follow the Fremont River under the reef's red cliffs. The scenic drive stays in that canyon, past the historic fruit trees, and you can run it from camp. You sleep at Fruita Campground among the orchards, with the river next to the loops.
Fruita is reservation-only all year through Recreation.gov, up to six months ahead. Book the orchard site first.
Moab, Arches, and Dead Horse Point
Sandstone fins hang over the campsites at Devils Garden, and the garden walk starts from camp. From March through October those sites are reservable up to six months ahead and usually full every night, with a 40-foot maximum.
Island in the Sky is the other park overnight, at Willow Flat. Most sites there cap RVs at 28 feet. If you need more sleeping space or length than these desert pads allow, look at RVs for rent in Utah.
The rim at Dead Horse Point drops to the river, a straight look down on the bend. Kayenta Campground and Wingate Campground are the two park campgrounds on that rim.
You can sleep on a Colorado bend at Goose Island, Hittle Bottom, Lower Onion Creek, Dewey Bridge, Hal Canyon, or Big Bend. Grandstaff is tent-only, and Jaycee Park does not allow RVs.
From the visitor center overlook at Monument Valley, on the Navajo Nation, the Mitten Buttes and Merrick Butte line up with the loop road below. RVs are prohibited on that loop drive.
Goblin Valley
You walk among the goblins at eye level on the valley floor, close enough to put a hand on the rock. The campground has no hookups, and reservations open four months ahead on ReserveAmerica.
North of the desert parks, Bear Lake's campsites run May through October. Flaming Gorge's forest campgrounds take Recreation.gov reservations in peak season, May through September.
The Wasatch and the Great Salt Lake belong to Salt Lake City. Southwest of the desert parks, St. George is the other Utah city, and Zion Canyon is a separate overnight that starts from Zion. From outside Utah, the trip connects through Las Vegas, Denver, Grand Junction, Jackson, Boise, and Flagstaff.
