Snow Canyon sandstone and black basalt in St. George

St. George puts a canyon night at Snow Canyon State Park next to water days at Sand Hollow and Quail Creek. Summer is hot, so a hookup site matters more than it does in spring or fall. Red Cliffs Recreation Area is the smaller creek camp if your van clears the underpasses under I-15.

St. George campervan trips to Snow Canyon and the reservoirs

Red and white Navajo sandstone meets a black basalt lava flow at Snow Canyon State Park, and the campground is in the gap between them. In the morning you walk both the sandstone walls and the black rock, under cinder cones that still cap the old rims. By mid-morning in summer the canyon throws heat.

You come back to the van between walks and stay in the canyon for the night. The rest of the year is mild, and this is still the canyon overnight people take from St. George. Ivins is the town on this side of the canyon.

Utah State Parks puts the campground two miles into the park with partial hookups on some pads. As of September 2026, reservations run from 48 hours to 4 months ahead. Get the pad first, then the van.

Zion National Park is a separate campervan trip, and Kanab is the town on the far side of it. From Snow Canyon, the water days run to Sand Hollow.

Sand Hollow State Park

At Sand Hollow State Park the reservoir is turquoise against red sandstone, and Sand Mountain's dunes take the OHV day next to the water. You can ride in the morning and get in the reservoir the same afternoon. As of September 2026, the park recommends reserving a campsite. Hurricane is the town next to the reservoir.

Quail Creek State Park

Desert hills ring the reservoir at Quail Creek State Park, and the water stays warm in winter for boats and fishing. You camp on the shore with power and water hookups and a dump station, as of September 2026.

Red Cliffs Recreation Area

A shaded creek runs under red cliff walls at Red Cliffs Recreation Area, with a picnic area in that shade and the walls close overhead. As of September 2026 the BLM requires campground reservations through recreation.gov. The two underpasses under I-15 cap vehicles and trailers at 11 ft 9 in, and trailers park at the White Reef Trailhead.

If you need more sleeping space than a van, RV rentals in St. George are the next size, and a high-roof van still checks that underpass height before it commits. If you are tying this loop to Nevada, Las Vegas is the handoff.
