Nobody flies into Las Vegas to see Las Vegas from a campervan. The Strip and Fremont Street are the evening. The van is for the mornings, and the good ground starts close to town, in three different directions. The nearest is Red Rock Canyon, which the Bureau of Land Management puts 17 miles west of the Strip, with a paved loop through the sandstone that is most people's first afternoon. From October through May that loop takes a timed entry reservation for the middle of the day, so sort it before you land rather than over breakfast.
The other direction is up. The Spring Mountains rise northwest of town and get snow in winter, which is not what anyone expects from a desert city. Fletcher View, in Kyle Canyon, 24 miles from Las Vegas, is the easy first night if you land late: 11 sites, electric at every one, open year round, and $33 a night on Recreation.gov as of August 2026. Eleven sites is not many, so the campground is what decides your dates, not the van. Neither of those is the trip people fly in for, though. That one is Death Valley, and it is a different scale of drive. Death Valley, 120 miles west
Death Valley is salt flats below sea level, sand dunes and painted rock. The Park Service puts the drive at about 120 miles and two hours, out on NV 160 through Pahrump and across into California. The roads inside are narrow and cannot be hurried, and the park's own warning is that the most dangerous thing out there is not the heat, it is the single-car rollover.
Most of the park has no cell service and fuel is scarce, which is the argument for a van that carries its own water and power. Dantes View and Zabriskie Point are what people set an alarm for. Furnace Creek is the only park-run campground that takes reservations, on Recreation.gov for the October 15 to April 15 season and up to six months out, so that booking is the first thing to settle. The rest are first come, first served.
Valley of Fire, 55 miles northeast
Bright red sandstone standing in pale gray limestone, with rock writing on the stone at Atlatl Rock and short walks out to named formations rather than all-day hikes. The park's own map puts it 55 miles northeast of Las Vegas, about an hour up Interstate 15. The driving is the point in a van, seven slow miles of park road between the two fee booths and a spur out to White Domes at the far end.
Nevada State Parks runs two campgrounds here, Atlatl Rock and Arch Rock, 72 sites between them with shaded tables, water, showers and a dump station, all booked ahead through Reserve Nevada. Camping is $20 a vehicle a night, $25 on out-of-state plates, and $10 more for a site with hookups, as of August 2026. The park also closes to everyone, walkers included, from December 1 through December 14 each year for maintenance, which is worth knowing before you plan around those two weeks.
EDC weekend at the Speedway
EDC Las Vegas fills Las Vegas Motor Speedway for a weekend every May. Camp EDC, the festival's own campground on the site, sells RV camping, and you drive on to an assigned plot with power, water refills and pump-outs available as extras. Power has to be ordered at checkout, and it wants at least 75 feet of cable with a 30 or 50 amp connector, which is a question for whoever you rent from. One camping pass covers the vehicle and up to eight people, but it is not a festival ticket, and everyone sleeping there needs one of those as well.
Leaving the van in Phoenix, Denver or Salt Lake City
Phoenix, Denver and Salt Lake City each sit at the end of a real trip out of Las Vegas, and Indie Campers keeps a depot in all three as well as here, so the van does not have to come back. Which vans can make a given run, and what it costs extra, is settled on the listing, so raise it before you pay. Anyone traveling in a bigger group than a van sleeps can pick up a Las Vegas RV rental in town instead and drive the same routes.
