Across Jenny Lake the Teton Range climbs straight off the valley floor with no foothills in the way. That same wall hangs over the Snake River bottomlands, and the nights under it are why a campervan trip to Jackson exists. Gros Ventre, Signal Mountain, and Colter Bay are the nights closest to the view.
Jenny Lake is tents only as of September 2026, so a hard-sided van skips that loop. The three van campgrounds are reservation-only on Recreation.gov and do not take walk-ups, so lock the pad before you book the van. Length limits differ by campground, and if you need more sleeping space or a shorter rig for a tight site, look at RVs for rent in Wyoming.
Jackson itself is the grocery-and-services base between park days. A run into Yellowstone National Park is the other big add-on from here, with its own campground system and summer demand.
Float the Snake River
Braided channels and gravel bars run under the Teton wall on the stretch from Jackson Lake Dam to Pacific Creek, beginner water for a private boat. Farther toward Moose Landing the river steepens into advanced water. Snake River outfitters run the same corridor if you would rather not trailer your own craft.
A Grand Teton boat permit plus a Wyoming aquatic invasive species decal and inspection are required before you launch any vessel, as of September 2026.
Bridger-Teton National Forest
When Grand Teton fills, the forest roads above town are the honest fallback. Curtis Canyon sits a short walk from a view down onto the National Elk Refuge with the Tetons behind it. Sites are first-come, and the campground closes in September.
Along the Gros Ventre River road, Atherton Creek on Lower Slide Lake mixes reservable and first-come pads, and Crystal Creek is first-come only. Both close in September. Farther out on that road, dispersed pull-offs work for a van that can live without hookups.
Winter in Jackson
From November into spring, every developed campground in Grand Teton closes, even though the park itself stays open. The van becomes a town base for ski days. On the National Elk Refuge, a horse-drawn sleigh ride among the wintering herd is the winter day, not an overnight.
If the loop continues south, Idaho Falls is the handoff. Farther west, Salt Lake City is the other.
