The bluff trails at Eisenhower State Park run above Lake Texoma before they drop to a sandy cove you can swim. You walk the high ground first, then you are on the sand with boats working the open water. Sherman and Denison are the towns on this shore.
People fish Lake Texoma for striped bass, crappie, and catfish, and a boat is how you use the rest of the lake once you leave the cove. You camp inside the park so morning is that cove, that trail, and that water. The gate is on Park Road 20 in Denison.
Texas Parks and Wildlife lists full-hookup campsites with water, sewer, and electric, and pull-throughs are available. Water-only sites in Elm Point, Armadillo Hill, and Fossil Ridge are a different night, so you match the van to the pad. No RV length cap is posted on the campsite pages as of September 2026.
Summer is hot on Texoma, and the sandy cove is the afternoon swim that makes the heat usable. In spring, summer, and fall the park often reaches capacity, and Texas Parks and Wildlife recommends reservations for camping and day use, so the site is the first booking you make. Across the lake the highway keeps going into Oklahoma.
When the Texoma drive is more than you want on night one, Lavon Lake is the closer pad.
Lavon Lake
On Lavon Lake's south shore, East Fork has a swim beach and a boat harbor, with concessions at East Fork Harbor Marina. You sleep at East Fork or at Lavonia Park on the same lake. Use it as a weekend on this water, or as night one before you continue to Texoma.
Lavonia Park and East Fork both take reservations. Lavonia has full hookups, and East Fork has water and electric with a dump station near the entrance instead of sewer at the site. Book East Fork on recreation.gov, and East Fork stays open year-round.
Some standard electric sites at East Fork cap RVs and trailers at 50 feet as of September 2026. If you need more sleeping space or a longer rig than a campervan, look at RV rentals in Texas. If you are heading into the metro instead of north, Dallas has that trip.
Bonham State Park
The CCC-built Bois d'Arc Trail is the hard loop at Bonham State Park, hilly ground around a small park lake that also has an easier lake loop. Hikers and bikers share the trail system, and a fishing pier and boat ramp sit on the same water. The park puts paddle boats, kayaks, and canoes out when the weather allows.
Full-hookup campsites are available, along with water-and-electric sites. Eisenhower names Bonham as a nearby state park. Farther out, Cooper Lake State Park's South Sulphur unit has its own camping on Jim Chapman Lake, separate from the Doctors Creek unit, with equestrian campsites on the South Sulphur side.
