Dinner on the Kalaloch bluff is the Pacific working a beach of driftwood below you, fog erasing the horizon and giving it back. The campground is in the grass above that drop, and the surf does not quit. Highway 101 is the whole road on this stretch, Forks to the north and Ocean Shores down the sand.
The week is tide pools and long sand. In the wet months the same bluff is for storm-watching.
Kalaloch's campground has no hookups. Book the campground before the van if you want a summer night on the bluff.
Near La Push, Mora Campground sits in mossy coastal forest. The town is the end of the road.
South on the same ocean, Cape Disappointment State Park takes the Long Beach Peninsula at the mouth of the Columbia. The campground has hookup sites, river on one side and Pacific on the other, and the peninsula is sand in both directions.
Grayland Beach State Park keeps hookup sites in the campground. Camping on the beach itself is off the table.
Mount St. Helens
From the shoreline at Seaquest State Park, Mount St. Helens takes up the other side of Silver Lake, crater blown out. A pedestrian tunnel runs from the campground to the Interpretive Center, and the volcano day starts on foot from the pad.
Full hookups at Seaquest are on one loop, with a 50-foot cap. As of September 2026, State Route 504 ends short of Johnston Ridge Observatory and the visitor center there is closed, so you take the mountain from Silver Lake and from the viewpoints the road still reaches.
The Columbia Gorge on the Washington side
Windsurfers work the Columbia under Beacon Rock, and you camp at the base of the wall. Woodard Creek is the full-hookup loop in the trees below it.
Maryhill State Park has full hookups on the Columbia, with a pebble beach and a swim area on the water.
Sun Lakes-Dry Falls State Park
The overlook at Dry Falls is a cliff that used to carry a waterfall, the lake basin below it punched out by Ice Age floods. That wall is the reason to come, and the day is the water and the coulee walks.
The campground has full hookups and a 65-foot cap. If you need that length, or more sleeping space than a van, look at Washington RV rentals.
Puget Sound and Eastern Washington
From the Sound, Seattle covers the north Olympics and the ferry crossings. Tacoma does Mount Rainier, and Olympia does Olympic's south side and the rain forest around Quinault.
Bellevue sleeps on the Green River. Redmond follows the interstate east of Snoqualmie Pass, and Everett crosses to Whidbey.
Bellingham takes Mount Baker. Mount Vernon takes Deception Pass, the San Juan ferry, and Highway 20 into the North Cascades.
Spokane takes the river parks and the Grand Coulee country around Steamboat Rock. Wenatchee takes Lake Chelan and Leavenworth. Kennewick works the Columbia at the Tri-Cities.
South of the Columbia, Oregon and Portland take the other bank, with Cannon Beach if you stay on the sand. East, Idaho and Coeur d'Alene are the next overnight, and Montana if you keep going. Vancouver, Washington, is the city on this bank across from Portland.
