The Track and Tower Trail climbs to a lookout over Cache Lake, off Highway 60, and from the top the water you canoe later that day is spread below. The same loop includes a side trip toward Mew Lake if that is the campground you booked.
Farther along Highway 60, the Lookout Trail crosses two lakes on the way to a second lookout. Ontario Parks describes both walks from this corridor. You can hike either one from a drive-in loop the same day.
Mew Lake, Pog Lake, Lake of Two Rivers, and Canisbay are the drive-in, car-camping loops along that road. Huntsville is the town at the west end of Highway 60, where the park road begins. You come in from Huntsville and pick a loop.
Lock Mew Lake or Pog Lake for the first night when you want an improved loop. Once you are on a loop, you canoe the lake you camped on.
Reserve the pad before you rent the van. Ontario Parks takes reservations up to five months ahead of arrival, and summer weekends on Highway 60 fill inside that window.
Mew Lake keeps winter operating dates alongside its regular season as of September 2026. That is the Highway 60 loop to book if you want a van night outside summer.
If you need more sleeping space than a campervan bunk, look at Toronto RV rentals, and a bigger rig still needs a reserved Highway 60 pad.
Toronto Islands and the waterfront
The ferry leaves the Jack Layton terminal with the downtown skyline in view for the whole crossing. You land on the beaches and boardwalks at Centre Island, Ward's Island, and Hanlan's Point. The van stays on the city side of that ride.
Centre Island is where Centreville's midway is. You do the midway, walk the boardwalk, and take the ferry back to the van. Ward's Island and Hanlan's Point continue the same island park along the water.
Access is ferry only from the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal. There is no camping on the islands, and there is no vehicle access. Park on the waterfront and go for the day.
As of September 2026, some access points to Hanlan's Point Beach are closed for high water. Centre Island and Ward's Island still give you the boardwalk day.
Rouge National Urban Park is the urban-park day on the east side of the metro area, an Ajax trip. Oshawa continues along Lake Ontario for a lakeshore start.
Mississauga is the start if you want the west side of the city. Brampton is the city north of there.
Oakville is the west lakeshore start. Newmarket points north toward Lake Simcoe.
Ottawa is the capital and Ottawa River trip. Niagara Falls is a day with a night on that side of the lake, from St. Catharines.
Buffalo is the New York handoff. Detroit is the Michigan one. Indie Campers has a depot in North York, north of downtown, and a one-way's drop city is on the listing.
