The trail out of the Elk Neck woods breaks onto Turkey Point Lighthouse and a hundred-foot bluff, with the Chesapeake opening west toward sunset. Woods run to one side and open bay to the other, and the point is a birding stop as much as a walk. You can do Turkey Point as a day from Baltimore. Sleeping on the neck is what turns the walk into a weekend.
Give the peninsula a full weekend. Walk out to the point at dusk and ride the park roads by bike between the Elk River Camping Area loops, where North East Loop holds the full hookups. Summer Saturdays fill the lot, and Maryland state parks book up to a year ahead, so the site comes before the van.
As of September 2026, Elk Neck State Park keeps North East Loop open year-round, with the other loops on weekends in the shoulder season. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, Maryland state parks require a two-night weekend stay.

Hollofield in Patapsco Valley State Park
The Patapsco cuts a wooded valley through suburban Baltimore, and Hollofield is the loop where a van sleeps close to town. You hear the river from camp, and you hear Route 40. Use it as a first night out of the city.
Hilton is tent camping and cabins, with no vehicle camping. Hollofield is the Patapsco area that takes a van, some sites with electric.
A campervan fits these pads. The Route 40 entrance carries a posted height clearance of 11 feet 1 inch, and a tall van checks it before turning in. If you need more sleeping space, Maryland RV rentals are the size-up.

Susquehanna State Park in Havre de Grace
Upriver from Havre de Grace, Susquehanna State Park is mill and trail country, Rock Run gristmill on the river and mountain-bike lines in the woods. The campground is two loops in that valley. Only a small number of those sites have electric. The campground runs May through October, and the electric sites go early in summer.
Gunpowder Falls is a tubing day down a rocky, wooded gorge. There is no public campground there, so tube it as a day from Baltimore or from this river park.
