Middle Falls hangs as a wide white curtain off the rim at Letchworth State Park, and Upper and Lower Falls follow the Genesee River down the same gorge. You stand on the overlook with spray on your face and the river far below in the cut. Highbanks is the tent-and-trailer camp that puts you in the park overnight so the rim is still there in the morning.
The walk stays in one gorge. You move along the rim, drop toward the water, and climb back through the same cut. New York State Parks calls this the Grand Canyon of the East. From Highbanks you get Middle Falls in late light and again after sunrise.
You book the Highbanks site first, then the van. Reservations open up to nine months ahead, and you reach the campground through the Mount Morris entrance on Route 36 through Mount Morris. Geneseo is a town in the same valley.
As of September 2026, park construction affects some camping loops while others stay open. Hookups are limited, with electric on some RV sites and no full hookups. If you need more sleeping space than a campervan, look at New York RV rentals for the longer rigs that want those electric sites.
Hamlin Beach State Park
You sleep on a bluff above a sandy Lake Ontario beach at Hamlin Beach State Park, inside Monroe County. It is the close-in first night on the west lakeshore.
The campground is reservations only, with no walk-ins, and same-day reservations stay available online before 3 p.m. Book the pad before you drive to the bluff.
The Genesee Valley Greenway and the Erie Canal towpath at Pittsford are the bike day, with no camping on either corridor. Brockport is a west-side town on that Rochester loop. Mendon Ponds is the kettle-lake day in the county.

Stony Brook State Park
At Dansville the Gorge Trail follows a stream-cut slot past three cascades and a stone-lined, stream-fed pool. You camp in the woodlands above it at the South Entrance, then walk down into the water and the falls.
Sites have no electric or water hookups, only restrooms and a dump station. As of September 2026, the upper stretch of the Gorge Trail is closed.
The Finger Lakes gorges are the Finger Lakes trip. Letchworth, Hamlin Beach, and Stony Brook all keep campgrounds open mid-May through mid-October.
