Morning at Webster Park starts on the fishing pier. You walk down from the campground through evergreens, and Lake Ontario moves against the rocks at the bottom of the slope. Fish or just stand over the water, then walk back up to mixed trailer and tent sites in the trees. Monroe County opens the loop May 1 through October 31, and it is the only public overnight in town.
This is the first night on the east lakeshore. The van stays in Webster, and the days run east along the same water.
Wind and waves have cut clay spires off the Lake Ontario bluff line at Chimney Bluffs State Park. From the rim trail you look along that wall of clay, and from the beach you look up at the same towers. New York State Parks calls this the most dramatic landscape on the Lake Ontario shore. Walk those trails in daylight and sleep back at Webster Park.
Sodus Point is farther along that same shore, the 1871 limestone lighthouse over the marina and boats stacked in Sodus Bay behind the tower. The village is a day, same as the bluffs. Fair Haven Beach is the second night on this water.
Fair Haven Beach State Park
The lake at Fair Haven is a sand beach under wooded bluffs. A guarded swim area runs along that sand, and the campgrounds are in the rolling woodland just behind the shore. The Bluff loop is the overnight on the high ground above the beach. Drumlin and Lakeview are the woodland loops behind it.

Book the site before the van. Reservations open up to nine months ahead as of September 2026, and camping on the loops runs mid-May through mid-October.
Fairport, Sterling Nature Center, and the Seaway Trail
Fairport is the Erie Canal village on this trip. The day is a public walk along the canal, boats in the water and a town around it. There is no camping in the village, so sleep stays at Webster Park or Fair Haven.
Sterling Nature Center is a Cayuga County preserve of forest, wetlands, and meadows that meet Lake Ontario. You come for the shoreline walk. If you are already east toward Fair Haven, it is the preserve day on that stretch.
The Great Lakes Seaway Trail is a National Scenic Byway that follows Lake Ontario east toward Oswego. It is the road that ties Sodus Point and Fair Haven together, then keeps going. Selkirk Shores State Park is the overnight farther along that byway, and it is Syracuse's.
Letchworth and Hamlin Beach, the gorge and the west lakeshore, are Rochester's.
