North of the Huntington Beach State Park campground, the walk goes over the dunes behind the loop and along the sand to the jetty at the north end of the beach. The campground loop is behind those dunes, close enough that evening is a walk to the water with sand still on your feet, and morning is the same walk in reverse. Inland from the loop, a causeway splits freshwater Mullet Pond from the tidal salt marsh of Murrells Inlet.
A Myrtle Beach week at Huntington is that walk plus the slower hours on the causeway, done from the same overnight, so you never pack up to see the marsh.
Winter is when birders concentrate on that causeway, and the park's birding page says it is "considered by many to be the best birding spot in South Carolina." The Nature Center marsh boardwalk is closed for construction as of September 2026, so the causeway is the marsh walk you still have.
Between the loop and the beach, you walk Atalaya's Moorish courtyard and towers in the live oaks. The courtyard is the shade in the heat of the day, a pause on the way to the sand.

Myrtle Beach State Park
From the campground at Myrtle Beach State Park you walk under live oaks that lean straight off the beach, then out the fishing pier. The oaks are the shade over the overnight, and the pier is the morning walk, out over the water you swim from the same shore. You stay in town here, with the pier as the walk you make from the site.
Many sites take RVs up to 40 feet, and reservations carry a two-night minimum. Atlantic hurricane season can shuffle coastal camping at both parks.
Brookgreen Gardens
At Brookgreen Gardens, sculpture allees pass under live oaks, Magnolia Allee among them, across US-17 Bypass from Huntington. The gardens are a day in the shade after mornings on the Huntington sand. You park for the day in a designated RV area, walk the allees, and sleep at Huntington the same night. Pawleys Island is the next name south on that road.
The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Murrells Inlet
Park in town and walk the oceanfront boardwalk, the SkyWheel turning over the piers. Evening is the MarshWalk at Murrells Inlet, a wooden walkway over the saltwater estuary in a working fishing village.
Georgetown is farther down the same coast, and Wilmington is the North Carolina name if you keep going north. Charleston is the next campervan city when you want the harbor after the beach week.
