Jordan Lake from Holly Springs

Holly Springs sits beside Jordan Lake, with pine-shaded camper loops at Crosswinds, Poplar Point, Parkers Creek, and Vista Point. Summer weekends fill those pads, so the site is the first booking. Raven Rock State Park is the other overnight, a trail to a crystalline bluff over the Cape Fear.

Campervan weekends on Jordan Lake

Bald eagles work the air over Jordan Lake in season, and from the observation platform the water is open lake with pines on every bank. Holly Springs is the town beside that water. The overnight is a pine-shaded loop at Crosswinds, Poplar Point, Parkers Creek, or Vista Point.

The days are the shoreline and that platform, and the van can stay a few nights on the same water. The accesses spread around the lake, so a night at Crosswinds and a night at Vista Point are different shorelines. Crosswinds and Poplar Point are toward Apex, Vista Point toward Pittsboro, and Cary and Fuquay-Varina are with Holly Springs on this side of the lake.

The first night is whichever access still has a site. On summer weekends the pads go early, so lock the site first and treat the van as the second booking. Reservations through North Carolina State Parks on ReserveAmerica have to be made a day ahead and can be made up to six months out.

Many of the loops have electric and water hookups. A few loops at Parkers Creek and Poplar Point are walk-up only, first come, first served, and they cannot be reserved in advance. Vista Point's RV sites stay open all year, with the water shut off in winter.

Falls Lake, north of Raleigh, is a different lake, and that overnight is Raleigh's. Kerr Lake belongs to Durham.

Raven Rock State Park

Raven Rock State Park, in Harnett County, is a regular weekend from Holly Springs. A trail reaches a crystalline bluff over the Cape Fear River, and the rock face looks out on the water.

Moccasin Branch campground is on Moccasin Branch Road, just before the main entrance. A handful of full-hookup RV sites have long driveways, and more drive-to sites have no hookups. If you need more sleeping space than a van, look at North Carolina RV rentals; those driveways take them.

From either overnight, the American Tobacco Trail is the day ride, a tree-lined rail-trail with a gravel segment in Wake County. The stretch from the Wimberly Road parking area to the White Oak Creek Greenway is closed for landslide repair into the fall as of September 2026, so check that notice before you ride.

Harris Lake County Park is the other day, mountain-bike singletrack on a peninsula in the Shearon Harris Reservoir. There is no campground there, so you come back to Jordan Lake or Moccasin Branch at night.
