A marked trail leads onto a flat field of boulders at Hickory Run State Park, rock left by the last glaciation, each one the size of a house. You pick a line across the stones, dry underfoot, and the field stays flat the whole way to the trees on the far side. Long Pond is the Poconos town next to that field, and the park campground is the night before a morning on the rocks.
The Hickory Run campground keeps tent, trailer, and full-hookup sites open from mid-April through mid-December, and food has to stay in bear-proof storage. That loop is the first night after the Boulder Field. Summer weekends want the reservation locked ahead.
A rafting day on the Lehigh through Lehigh Gorge State Park puts in at Jim Thorpe, on the same corridor as Hickory Run. You sleep back at the park campground after the river.
If Hickory Run is full, Pickerel Point at Promised Land State Park has full hookups as the overflow night. Tobyhanna State Park is the late-booking fallback, high enough that nights stay cool even in July and August.
Pocono Raceway
On a NASCAR weekend you camp in the infield at Pocono Raceway, inside the Tricky Triangle, with a concert stage and a block party running through the campground. The overnight stays loud, with music and generators between practice and the race. Long Pond is the town attached to that June race weekend.
The overnight books through the raceway's own camping office, and as of September 2026 it sells to renewing ticket holders before the public. Lock that site before the van. The sale opens to the public after the renewal period closes.
Race weekend fills Hickory Run too. Treat the track overnight and the park as one crowded weekend.
The Delaware at Dingmans Ferry
Below the bluffs at Dingmans Ferry the Delaware runs wide and slow, forest on both banks. Canoes and rafts launch from the Dingmans Access, and outfitters work this Pennsylvania side of the river. Dingmans Campground is the night on the bank, with electric and water hookups, a dump station, and room for rigs up to 50 feet.
If you need more sleeping space than a campervan, look at RVs for rent in Long Pond, which fit inside that 50-foot cap. The campground is seasonal, and Delaware Water Gap on the New Jersey side is a Newark campervan trip.
Bushkill Falls
The main drop at Bushkill Falls hits a hemlock gorge, and boardwalks and bridges carry the trail along a system of eight falls. It is a private, paid day with no camping on the property. Bushkill Falls closes from December through March, and you sleep at Hickory Run.
Big Pocono State Park is the paved summit drive up Camelback Mountain, a three-state view with no camping and no trailers on the steep summit road. The waterfall loop at Ricketts Glen State Park belongs on a Pennsylvania trip.
