Arcadia Lake and Route 66 from Edmond

Edmond keeps its own lake, with city campgrounds on the water and Route 66 running through Arcadia on the same stretch. Roman Nose State Park at Watonga is the gypsum-canyon weekend. Guthrie is a walking day through brick territorial downtown.

Lake nights and a canyon weekend from Edmond

A waterfront site at Arcadia Lake is red dirt at the shoreline with the water right in front of the pad. You hear the lake at night, and the covered fishing dock is the dusk walk with a rod. Route 66 through Arcadia is the same trip, the highway between camp and town.

Hiking, bike, and horse trails run past the campground, so a morning loop ends back at the water with the van still on the pad.

After dark the 66-foot bottle at Pops lights up under a 100-foot steel canopy, visible from the highway before the diner comes into view. Pops is a diner and soda shop under that bottle, with more than 700 soda flavors. The Round Barn sits on the same road, a round red barn against the highway, open every day with free admission as of September 2026. See the barn in daylight and the bottle after dark, both between the lake and town.

Central State Park is the full-hookup campground on the lake. Book those sites in advance, as of September 2026, and book the site before you book the van. Edmond Park and Scissortail Campground take same-day bookings only, so arrive before the gatehouse closes. Summer is when the lakefront goes first, and a full-hookup pad on the water is the one that disappears.

Roman Nose State Park at Watonga

Gypsum walls drop to a spring-fed creek at Roman Nose State Park, on Highway 8A north of Watonga. The walk follows the canyon bottom between pale cliff faces, close enough to touch the gypsum. Inspiration Point Loop takes you to the rim, looking back down on the creek. Three springs feed that bottom, and the CCC stone pool opens in summer under the same walls.

The campground has full-hookup sites and water-and-electric sites without sewer, and every campsite is reserved online, as of September 2026. The park stays open year-round. If you need more sleeping space than a campervan, look at Oklahoma RV rentals; the full-hookup sites take them.

Guthrie's brick downtown

Guthrie's downtown is brick storefronts and territorial-era cornices on wide Victorian blocks. It served as Oklahoma's territorial and first state capital from 1890 to 1910, and the commercial core is a National Historic Landmark District. Walk it as a day from Edmond.

The Wichita Mountains and the Arbuckles are Oklahoma City's. Beavers Bend and the rest of the state, including the Great Salt Plains, are Oklahoma's.
