Million Dollar Beach is a walk from the tent-and-trailer sites at Lake George Battleground, village streets one way and the Adirondack shore the other. The campground is in the village, so the beach is a walk and the van can stay put. A steamboat has worked this water since 1817.
Hearthstone Point is the next sand beach up the west shore, 2 miles north of Lake George Village. Rogers Rock is the northern end of the lake near Hague. The DEC campgrounds on Lake George open in mid-May and close between early September and mid-October, all of them on ReserveAmerica with no walk-ups in season.
Forested islands lie off the village beach, shoreline sites with a dock apiece. They are boat-access only from a private marina. A van cannot camp there.
Prospect Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway is the drive-up view, three overlooks and a parking lot near the top. Bolton Landing and Warrensburg are along the west shore on the way up the lake, and Glens Falls is the town between Saratoga Springs and the water.
Moreau Lake State Park
You dry-camp at Moreau Lake State Park, tents and trailers with no hookups. The park has cabins and cottages if you want a roof, and the season runs into early November. If you need more sleeping space than a van, look at RVs for rent in Saratoga Springs.
On weekends and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day, campers, motorhomes, and trailers stay out of the beach area. Plan the swim around that rule if you are staying over a holiday weekend.
Saratoga Spa State Park and the springs
You walk the mineral springs at Saratoga Spa State Park and soak at the Roosevelt Baths. The performing arts center and two public pools share the grounds. The park lists no campsite, so the van sleeps at Moreau Lake or on Lake George.
SPAC concert weekends land on the same dates as peak camping. Lee's Park, a private campground on Saratoga Lake, sells concert camping tied to the SPAC calendar as of September 2026.
The Saratoga Race Course meet from mid-July into early September fills lodging around town and lists only day-of parking, with no overnight on the grounds.
The 1777 battlefield at Saratoga National Historical Park is a day on the tour road, with no campground of its own, and Albany is the next city south for the Capital District parks.
Great Sacandaga Lake
West of Saratoga Springs, Great Sacandaga Lake is a reservoir weekend with two DEC campgrounds on the water. Northampton Beach Campground is on the northwest shore, with a guarded sand beach from mid-June through Labor Day. Sacandaga Campground is upriver near Northville, on the Sacandaga River rather than the lake proper, with a boat launch on Algonquin Lake behind the sites.
Luzerne Campground on Fourth Lake
Fourth Lake holds Luzerne Campground, tent-and-trailer sites plus horse paddocks. Motorboats stay off that water. It is a short drive from Saratoga Springs.
