The scramble down to Indian Head Cove is short, hands on limestone and cedar roots across the path, cliffs above topped with cedar. At the bottom, Georgian Bay fills the view and the Grotto is the sea cave in the rock, turquoise water against the stone. People swim in the cove, and that walk is why you drive north from Owen Sound onto the Bruce Peninsula.
Cyprus Lake Campground is the overnight that puts the scramble in the morning, inside Bruce Peninsula National Park, with Tobermory the harbour at the tip of the peninsula. The site is drive-in and unserviced, and the cove is a walk from camp.
Parks Canada allows RVs up to 27 ft on specific sites only and keeps a dump and water-refill station on site. Reservations are required May through October, and summer is when those sites fill, so lock the pad before you book the van. If 27 ft is too tight for who is sleeping in it, look at Owen Sound RV rentals.
Day visitors book a timed parking reservation in season online for the Grotto lots, and when those lots are full Parks Canada offers no other access. A Cyprus Lake reservation is a different booking from that parking slot.
For a night in Owen Sound with hookups, Harrison Park Family Campground is the City of Owen Sound's municipal campground. Sites are fully serviced, and the Bruce Trail is accessible from the park. Take it as the in-town night at the start of the trip, then move to Cyprus Lake once that reservation is in hand.
Sauble Beach and Sauble Falls Provincial Park
West from Owen Sound, the land opens onto Lake Huron at Sauble Beach, a wide flat shore where the sand shelves into the water and you wade a long way before it gets deep. On a summer weekend this is the Lake Huron day, and sunset is the long sightline west over the lake. You sleep at Sauble Falls Provincial Park, which Ontario Parks calls the perfect base camp for the beach and the Bruce Peninsula. Reservations are accepted up to five months in advance of your arrival.
Collingwood is the trip for Craigleith Provincial Park and Blue Mountain.
Inglis Falls
The Sydenham River drops off the Niagara Escarpment at Inglis Falls, into a gorge on the edge of Owen Sound. It is the waterfall people here walk, and you watch from the trails above because Grey Sauble Conservation Authority keeps the base of the falls off limits. Trails from the conservation area connect to the Bruce Trail, so the gorge can be a short walk or the start of a longer escarpment day.
Flowerpot Island
From Tobermory harbour, private tour boats are the only way onto Flowerpot Island in Fathom Five National Marine Park, and there is no vehicle access. The two flowerpots stand in the water off Beachy Cove, a sea cave opens in the same cove, and a lighthouse stands on the island. Parks Canada runs the boat season mid-May to mid-October, weather permitting. The campsites near Beachy Cove are boat-in tents, so for a campervan this is a boat day from Tobermory and the van stays on the mainland.
