Fort Collins North/Wellington KOA Journey
- With 65-70-foot pull-thrus and full hook-ups on all sites, No RV? When you're ready to explore our area, ""College Town"" Fort Collins and ""Cowpoke Town"" Cheyenne, WY are both close enough to visit on the same day.
- KOA Journey campgrounds offer the perfect oasis after a day on the road. Whether it's along the way or a quick getaway, they've got you covered. Located near the highways and byways of North America with long Pull-thru RV Sites, they deliver convenience to the traveling camper.
- Located in Wellington with easy highway access; some reviews mention potential odor issues from nearby feedlots, especially at night.
Horsetooth Reservoir Campgrounds
- Horsetooth Reservoir requires entrance and camping permits, and is open year round. It's located west of Fort Collins, Colorado, at an elevation of 5,420 feet. Drinking water and vault restrooms are located in each campground. Water available at frost free spigots only from Nov-March (tentative).
- We loved camping along Inlet Bay off Horsetooth Reservoir. We reserved site I-27 and had a great spot on the water. It's electric only at that site, but water filling station is less than 50 yards away from that site. We loved the easy access to the surrounding hiking trails and its a quick 15 min drive into Fort Collins, but feels more remote & peaceful.
- Entrance permits required; multiple campground areas available around the reservoir with varying amenities.
Rocky Mountain National Park Campgrounds
- Camping fees are $26 per site, per night in the summer, and $18 in the winter (when the water is off) - some park passes include discounts. Campers may check in after 1 p.m. and are requested to check out by noon; abide by posted quiet hours.
- It allows RVs up to 40 feet long and accommodates them further with a dump station and water hook-ups. Group sites also are available. (Moraine Park Campground)
- National Parks Service are different that many campsites as they require you book the correct type of site for sleeping in your vehicle. This can be listed in a number of ways: RV, RV nonelectric, or standard nonelectric. DO NOT book a 'tent only' site in a National Park campground unless you also have a tent with you.
Private RV Parks and Campgrounds
- Fort Collins is a mid-sized city that is part of the Colorado Front Range. It's located east of the foothills of the southern Rocky Mountains, where the plains and mountains meet. It's about an hour north of Denver, Colorado's state capital.
- There are several KOAs in Fort Collins including the Lakeside KOA which surrounds a ten-acre lake and allows catch-and-release fishing and paddle boats. You can also stay at the Fort Collins/Poudre Canyon KOA along the Cache La Poudre River, or the Fort Collins North/Wellington KOA which is a short drive from both Fort Collins and Cheyenne, Wyoming if you want to take a day trip there.
- Price ranges vary by amenities and location; many offer full hookups and big-rig friendly sites.
