Hueston Woods and the lodge over Acton Lake

Cincinnati trips sleep at Hueston Woods in Oxford or closer at East Fork State Park on Harsha Lake. Kings Island weekends park a mile from the coasters at a private campground in Mason. The Little Miami Scenic Trail through Loveland is the cycling day from either park.

Acton Lake, Harsha Lake, and a Kings Island night

Breakfast on the Hueston Woods lodge deck looks over Acton Lake, old-growth beech and maple holding the far shore, and the woods take over the moment you leave the deck. A covered bridge is back in those trees, and Oxford is the town.

Fossil hunting is the slow walk after the deck, under a canopy that keeps the trail dim at midday until you hear the lake again, and a second night gives the deck an evening.

The campground is west of Acton Lake, with full-hookup, electric, and non-electric sites that all require a reservation. Lock the pad before the van. The van is the second booking, and a tent pad is a different rental from a full-hookup pad.

East Fork State Park on Harsha Lake

Harsha Lake is the open water east of Cincinnati, out by Batavia, wide enough for unlimited-horsepower boating. The campground is the close overnight, 25 miles from the city, and the first night if you arrive late.

Ohio state parks usually winterize by early November. East Fork keeps loops open year-round as of September 2026, which makes it the Cincinnati night that still works in winter. Reserve that site first too.

Stonelick State Park is the quiet overflow, electric-only on a still lake framed by hardwoods, with disc-golf baskets in the trees. Caesar Creek State Park is Dayton's.

Kings Island in Mason

On a summer Saturday in Mason, the Kings Island coasters are the evening skyline from an RV row. You don't sleep inside the park. The overnight is private, at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Cincinnati, one mile from the gates as of September 2026, and it is not a park partner.

You spend the day in the park and come back to the row with the coasters still on the horizon. Full-hookup back-in and pull-through sites have water and sewer, and sites are assigned by rig length at booking, with no posted length cap. If you need more sleeping space than a campervan, RVs for rent in Cincinnati are the size-up.

Summer is when this collides with the state parks. Kings Island weekends fill the Hueston Woods and East Fork pads too, so treat them as one weekend.

The Little Miami Scenic Trail through Loveland

The paved rail trail crosses the river valley at Loveland, with the old trail-town depot behind the path. It is a rail trail that overlaps the Buckeye Trail, and the valley crossing is the ride people come for. Ride it from Hueston Woods or from East Fork, in warm weather through fall.

Across the Ohio River, the Covington side is a day. Red River Gorge belongs to Kentucky.
