You swim off the sand beach at Fort Yargo in Winder, then ride singletrack out of the campground through pine and roots, and you come back to a pad on Loop 1 that faces the water. The pads sit close enough that the lake is the view from the site. Turn around when you are done, and the van is still on the same loop.
The lake is 260 acres, with a swim beach and boat ramps. More than twenty miles of hiking and biking trail run out of the campground, enough that you can spend the afternoon on a bike and still be back at the sand.
Summer on this shoreline is Piedmont heat and humidity, and the storms build after lunch. The air sits on the lake, and you come back from the trail hot, plug in, and stay. Late-summer dry stretches can bring burn-ban fire restrictions at the state parks. Fort Yargo State Park books the electric sites on ReserveAmerica and charges a daily ParkPass per vehicle, as of September 2026.
If that loop is already taken, Hard Labor Creek State Park between Madison and Covington is the overflow lake park with sewer sites.
UGA gameday at Sanford Stadium
The lot a few miles from Sanford Stadium fills the night before a home game. Rooftops and pop-up canopies sit under string lights, flags in red and black hang off the sites, and a stadium-bound shuttle idles in the lot.
Bulldog Park is that private lot, about 3.3 miles from the stadium, with full hookups and shuttle buses to home games. You book it through a rental-inquiry form that goes to individual lot owners.
Visit Athens names the Intramural Fields as the RV area on a home Saturday, with a shuttle to Sanford Stadium and a way around the post-game traffic. The Classic Center has limited season and single-game RV parking, booked by emailing the venue's Parking Department, as of September 2026.

Fall home Saturdays, roughly six or seven from September through November, pull the same vans into Athens that people want for Fort Yargo and Watson Mill Bridge. People sleep in those lots on a football weekend. The lake loop and the covered-bridge loop tighten on those same dates, so lock the gameday overnight and the park pad first, then the van.
Watson Mill Bridge State Park
The covered bridge at Watson Mill Bridge State Park is red board-and-batten over the South Fork Broad River in Comer. White shoals run under a 229-foot town-lattice span, and the water is loud under it. Stand on the riverbank to see the whole truss at once.
The campground is a small electric loop with water at the site and no sewer. It is the closer developed overflow when Fort Yargo is full, and it books on ReserveAmerica. Regular RV traffic enters from Highway 22, and you do not take the van across the bridge. Watson Mill Bridge State Park posts a 9-foot clearance and a 3-ton weight limit on the span.
