Fair week in Perry starts in the livestock barns and show rings of the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter, with rows of rigs parked just inside the gate. With a motorhome on the grounds, the kids can nap between the morning show and the rodeo, then head out again for the midway after dark. When the last ride shuts down, the whole family walks back to its own beds, and nobody drives home tired at midnight.
The fair runs for a week and a half in mid-October, on dates the fair's own schedule posts each year. Those same nights pull on every rentable rig within reach of Perry, so the fair, the fairgrounds campground and the RV parks off I-75 all compete for the same motorhomes and the same pads. Lock the pad first, then book the rig that fits it.
On the fairgrounds, or at Fair Harbor off I-75
Inside the gate, the fairgrounds' RV campground has 30 and 50 amp sites, and the reservation team assigns each pad, with any requests going in the notes field. For the 2026 fair those sites were sold out, with a waitlist by email, as of October 2026, so a family without a fairgrounds pad in hand looks just off the interstate.
Fair Harbor RV Park spreads across 100-plus acres around a stocked fishing lake where the kids can fish without a license, a quarter mile from I-75 Exit 135. Every site there is full hookup, which matters on a parked week when the air conditioning and the shower run every day. From October through April the park puts on a Saturday breakfast and bingo, so fair weekend comes with both. Crossroads Travel Park, also in Perry, is the other park worth a call for fair week.

Lake Blackshear and the SAM Shortline at Georgia Veterans State Park
South of Perry, the trip slows down to a parked week on Lake Blackshear at Georgia Veterans State Park outside Cordele, with the lakeside sites right beside the boat ramp and the fishing pier. Mornings start on the pier, afternoons on the water, and the rig stays put all week.
The park's other draw is a train. The SAM Shortline's historic air-conditioned railcars roll out of a depot in the park on some of its excursions, and other trips leave from Cordele and Americus, so build the train day around the operator's posted schedule. The history day is by road: Jimmy Carter's hometown of Plains and the Civil War prison ground at Andersonville National Historic Site both make a day out from the lake, with the motorhome left on its pad.
Each of the park's 82 campsites takes a trailer or RV up to 50 feet, with water, electric and WiFi at every RV site, and reservations are site-specific, so pick the lakeside site you want and lock it before you book the rig. Summer on Blackshear is hot and the gnats are thick, which is when the electric hookup earns its keep running the air all afternoon.
