River Walk nights and coaster days from a San Antonio RV resort

Coaster days at SeaWorld and Six Flags Fiesta Texas, an afternoon at the Alamo, and evenings on the River Walk all run out of one RV resort in the city, with a pool waiting back at the pad. The Hill Country half of the trip heads north to the clear green water of Canyon Lake and the cypress-lined Guadalupe River.

San Antonio by RV, from the River Walk to Canyon Lake

Barges slide under their lights along San Antonio's River Walk, and on a family week that's where most nights end, with the kids half asleep before the boat docks. Days go to the coaster lift hills at SeaWorld on the west side and at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, or to the Alamo downtown. The hottest stretch of the afternoon goes to the heated pool and hot tub back at the RV resort, while the motorhome sits on a gravel pad under the live oaks with its air conditioning already running.

That resort is Traveler's World RV Resort, about three miles from the Alamo, with more than 160 full-hookup sites and 20, 30 and 50-amp service. The rig plugs in the first night and doesn't move again until checkout, which is the whole case for a motorhome in a city this hot. Nap time in cool bunks, lunch out of your own fridge, and your own bathroom between rides add up over seven days.

SeaWorld and Fiesta Texas each want a full day, so they work best split across the week with a slower downtown day between them. The Alamo and a barge ride along the River Walk fit into one afternoon and evening, and the restaurants along the water take care of dinner.

Reserve the resort site first and book the motorhome around those nights. In summer the whole week depends on a pad with power waiting at the end of each day.

Canyon Lake from Potters Creek and Cranes Mill

North of the city, Canyon Lake's water runs clear and green against a limestone shoreline, and the swimming beach at Potters Creek Park is where the kids want to be by mid-morning. The week here is slower than the city's, with swimming before lunch, shade in the afternoon, and the rig backed into a Corps of Engineers campground the whole time.

Potters Creek has 93 back-in RV sites and two dump stations, Cranes Mill has 30 back-ins and one dump station, and every one of those sites has 50-amp electric and water. The pads are the same at both parks, so the choice comes down to which part of the shoreline you want.

Sites book only through Recreation.gov, and summer weekends are when everyone wants the lake, so lock the pad before the rig. Canyon Lake is also where Cruise America's San Antonio rental center is, which makes the lake a natural opening night for a rig rented there.

Guadalupe River State Park's Turkey Sink and Cedar Sage loops

At Guadalupe River State Park the river runs cool under the bald cypress, which is the right place to be on a Texas summer afternoon. The campsites sit back under the live oaks, so the rig stays in the shade while everyone spends the day swimming and floating, and it works as a long weekend or a full week.

The park's 85 campsites all have water and electric. Turkey Sink's 48 sites carry 50-amp service and Cedar Sage's 37 carry 30-amp, so a bigger motorhome running two air conditioners belongs in Turkey Sink. Texas Parks and Wildlife doesn't post a maximum rig length for either loop, so check the site details when you reserve, and reserve before you book the rig.

Farther west, the clear Frio at Garner State Park is the Hill Country's big summer river week, with its own pages for the park's RV loops and the private Frio resorts in Concan. Out past Bandera, the bigtooth maples at Lost Maples go red in the fall, and Hill Country State Natural Area runs horse and hiking trails across old ranch land. Both are on the San Antonio campervan page, the better fit for a couple traveling in something smaller.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long an RV can Traveler's World RV Resort in San Antonio take?

Traveler's World RV Resort lists back-in and pull-through sites for rigs up to 45 feet, plus oversized back-ins. That leaves the choice of motorhome or towable to your family rather than to the resort. Ask for a pull-through if you'd rather not back the rig in after a long day at the parks.

Can you run a generator or have a campfire at Guadalupe River State Park near San Antonio?

Generators aren't allowed at the Turkey Sink loop of Guadalupe River State Park, so the site's electric hookup is the only power for the air conditioning there. As of September 2026 the park is under a burn ban that allows containerized-fuel stoves. Bring a propane stove and plan to cook on it or in the rig.

Where is Cruise America's San Antonio RV rental location?

Cruise America's San Antonio RV Rental Center is in Canyon Lake, at 16415 S Access Rd, up in the Hill Country north of the city. A family renting there can spend the first night at one of the Corps of Engineers parks on the lake before heading into San Antonio.
