Creek water moves past the RV pads at Hersheypark Camping Resort, and a freight train rumbles by just beyond the campground's edge, somewhere out in the dark. By morning the coasters at Hersheypark are the day's first plan, and the walk to the showers ends at the Historic Landis Barn, where the bath house lives. Families tend to run this as a parked week in a motorhome, settled on one site for several nights before the second half of the trip moves southeast into the Amish farmland of Lancaster County.
The campground is one of the Official Resorts of Hersheypark, so the park stays the easy daily outing. Its RV sites come with full hookups, meaning water, sewer, electric and cable, on 20, 30 or 50 amp, and you can choose a pull-through or a back-in. The resort's FAQ is upfront about the setting as of October 2026. The freight line adjoins the campground and runs 24 hours a day, and the creeks can flood after heavy rain.
Summer weekends in Hershey are the busy ones, so book the site first and the motorhome second, since the pad you land decides how big a rig makes sense. The same order holds at Gordonville and Gettysburg.
Lancaster County farm nights at Gordonville
Out in Gordonville, east of Lancaster, the farm fields at Country Acres Campground stretch off past the last row of pads, and the pool takes care of the afternoons once the kids are done sightseeing. The move from Hershey is a short one, and the rig settles in for the back half of the week among Amish farms, with buggies on the shoulder and farm stands at the ends of the lanes.
Country Acres runs full-hookup sites built for big rigs, with water, sewer, cable and 30 or 50 amp, some of them pull-through. It's open from mid-March through mid-December as of October 2026, which makes it the Lancaster night for spring and fall trips as well as summer.
The back-roads day through Amish Country is laid out on the Lancaster campervan page. Philadelphia, farther east, is its own trip, with the rig parked at a hookup base across the Delaware or out the Main Line, and the Philadelphia RV page has those bases.
Gettysburg along Marsh Creek
Marsh Creek slides along the row of pads at Gettysburg Campground, and in the evening herons, egrets and ducks work the water. The battlefield fills the days, southwest of Hershey toward the Maryland line, and the motorhome stays hooked up at its edge while you head out to the ridges and come back to the same site at night.
Gettysburg Campground has back-in and pull-thru sites, some listed as big-rig friendly, with 30 and 50 amp at every RV site. Gettysburg KOA is the other full-hookup base, with pull-thru sites on 20, 30 or 50 amp and back-in sites as well. The battlefield day itself, stop by stop, is on the York campervan page.
Knoebels, Penn State football and Pocono Raceway weekends
Knoebels, at Elysburg in the hills of the Coal Region, is the state's other family week, an old-school amusement park with wooden coasters, free admission and tickets by the ride, plus a campground of its own. Its pads and booking are on the Knoebels RV page.
Home football weekends turn State College into a tailgate town, with motorhomes lined up in the lots around Beaver Stadium long before kickoff and Happy Valley dressed in blue and white. The university's RV lots and overnight rules are on the State College RV page.
Up in the Poconos, Pocono Raceway at Long Pond fills with rigs on NASCAR weekends at the Tricky Triangle. The Long Pond RV page has the track's camping lots and rules. Football Saturdays and race weekends both pull motorhomes from across the region at once, so the rental and the pad near the venue book up on the same dates, and they're worth locking together, early.
The state's wilder corners make a different trip. Pine Creek Gorge, the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania, and Worlds End lie in the northern woods, Ricketts Glen stacks its waterfalls in the northeast, Presque Isle curls into Lake Erie, and Ohiopyle sits on the Youghiogheny in the southwest. Those run as no-hookup state park nights better suited to two people, and the Pennsylvania campervan page covers them in a smaller rig.
