Race mornings at Watkins Glen International start in a field of motorhomes. Behind the Seneca Grandstand the rigs stand in long rows on the grass, awnings out and chairs turned toward the fence, and the first engine note off Turn 1 comes straight through the bedroom wall. Inside the circuit, the infield sections put a whole crew trackside, close enough that the race runs past the campsite all weekend.
A motorhome turns the weekend into a camp for the family or the group. Everyone sleeps on site, lunch comes out of the fridge between sessions, and a rain delay is an hour at the dinette with the radio on. Friends who drive in for race day have somewhere to find you, and nobody sits in traffic back to a hotel after the last lap.
Seneca and the infield at Watkins Glen International
Seneca camping fronts Turn 1 from behind the grandstand of the same name, and it opens on the NASCAR weekend only. Sites there run about 25 by 40 feet with water and 30-amp electric, per the track's Seneca camping page as of October 2026, so the rig runs on shore power from arrival to the checkered flag.
The infield sections, A through F, open on more weekends: NASCAR, IMSA, SVRA and Winefest. Sites are about 20 by 40 feet, and the infield camping page lists no electric or water hookups for Section A, so roll in with the fresh tank full and the holding tanks empty. June IMSA weekends run hot without shore power and the September races bring cold nights, so plan the rig's power around the date.
On the NASCAR weekend the track sells more areas around the circuit, among them the Boot, Pit Road, the Inner Loop, the Backstretch and the gate lots (NASCAR camping areas). Check each area's site size before you choose a rig. For two people and one race, a campervan from the New York listings does the weekend on a smaller footprint.
Buy the site first and rent the rig to fit it. As of October 2026 the track lists IMSA for late June 2027 and SVRA in September (infield camping), with NASCAR in mid-September 2027 (Seneca camping). The 2026 NASCAR weekend ran in May, so the calendar moves from year to year.
Clute Park, at the south end of Seneca Lake
Clute Park belongs to the Village of Watkins Glen, a campground across the street from the lakefront park where reeds line the shore and the boat launch puts out onto Seneca Lake. Between races it's where a family parks for the week, and on race weekends it's the hookup base for crews who'd rather sleep off the circuit and drive in each morning.
The village lists 35 full hook-up sites with 30 and 50 amp electric, water and sewer (Clute Park reservations), and every booking goes through the campground's online system. Race weekends pull on the same rigs in the listings and the same lakefront pads, so book the site at Clute and the motorhome in one sitting as soon as the track posts its dates.
Off-track days go to the gorge at Watkins Glen State Park, where stone stairs climb past spray between narrow rock walls. The rig stays plugged in at Clute and you walk the trail. The park and its campground lead the Finger Lakes campervan page, which also covers the track as a single night in a smaller rig.
When a race fills everything, New York State Parks has opened electric loops at Watkins Glen State Park early as overflow, as it did for the May 2026 NASCAR weekend. The Finger Lakes RV page covers the state parks for a rig, Sampson on Seneca's east shore among them.
