Point Pelee's marsh boardwalk runs out over the water toward the tip, and the trail keeps going until Lake Erie shows on both sides. The land pinches to the southernmost point of mainland Canada, a short exposed end with lake on both flanks. Warblers stack in the shrubs on the spring push across the lake.
The night is Wheatley Provincial Park after the tip. Parks Canada allows only walk-in oTENTiks inside Point Pelee, with nearby parking and no tent or RV camping inside the boundary. Highway 3 east through Leamington and Kingsville is the drive Parks Canada publishes for the park.
Ontario Parks describes Boosey Creek as ideally suited for tents and camper vans. That loop is non-electrical, the larger loops take small trailers, and narrow roadways trouble large trailers. Highlands has electrical sites if you want power, and Middle Creek is fully electrical if Boosey Creek is full. If you need more length or sleeping space than a van, look at Windsor RV rentals.
Book the Wheatley site first, then the van. Ontario Parks accepts car-camping reservations up to five months before arrival. The loops run April into late October.
Pelee Island by ferry
The vehicle ferry to Pelee Island leaves from Leamington, the same town you pass on Highway 3 toward Point Pelee. You watch the island come up on the horizon, open water all the way. Pelee Island Ferries run daily sailings from spring into early December, and they carry vehicles for island sightseeing. RVs and camper trailers should verify propane capacity before arriving at the terminal, and boarding may be denied if the limit is exceeded.
Holiday Beach Conservation Area
During migration the hawk watch at Holiday Beach Conservation Area counts raptors working the Lake Erie shoreline. Essex Region Conservation Authority designated Holiday Beach and adjacent Big Creek an Important Bird Area for that raptor migration and hosts the Festival of Hawks each September.
The conservation area is day use, with serviced seasonal campsites that are not nightly camping, so you still need Wheatley if you want a van night. September weekends at the hawk watch fill Wheatley alongside Point Pelee's bird days. Chatham is the base for Rondeau Provincial Park. Across the river, Detroit is the Michigan city base.
