Long Point's sand spit on Lake Erie

Long Point's dune spit and Turkey Point's shallow village beach are the Lake Erie beach weeks from Simcoe. Long Point is a bird-staging shore inside a World Biosphere Reserve. Turkey Point is the treed overnight on the same coast, with a buoyed beach in the village.

Beach weeks from Simcoe

Long Point's sand spit is dune grass at the door and open Lake Erie past the beach, on land that heads out into the lake until water is the whole horizon. You walk to the beach from the van in the morning and you keep the same dunes for the week. Ontario Parks calls the point one of the largest bird and waterfowl migration and staging areas in North America, and the spit is inside a designated World Biosphere Reserve.

Reserve the site first, then book the van, because summer is the reservation crunch on this beach.

Long Point camps in two sections, a new park and an old park. Firefly, in the new park, has pull-through electrical sites a short walk from the beach, and that is the first night that fits a van that wants power. Monarch's Rest and Turtle Dunes, also in the new park, have electrical sites in the dunes close to the water. Cottonwood is the radio-free loop in the old park, and it is close to the beach too.

Ontario Parks' camping page says almost half the campsites have electrical service. Lock the site first, because the van is the second booking and the pad you hold decides the night. Camping season runs early May into mid-November. Turkey Point holds the other beach week on this same Lake Erie shore.

Turkey Point Provincial Park

At Turkey Point you swim in the village, on a beach that is shallow and buoyed. Treed, private campsites sit back from the water, and you come back to shade after the swim. A marina and a winery are nearby.

Pull-throughs take larger motorhomes. If you need more sleeping space or a longer rig than a campervan, look at RVs for rent in Simcoe. Ontario Parks' camping page says over half the sites have electric, and that is what you reserve if you want a hookup on this shore.

As of September 2026, Ontario Parks is replacing comfort stations and closing campgrounds earlier than the usual late-October season. Whippoorwill shuts in early September, and Walking Stick Woods and Fin and Feather shut in mid-October, so a late-season night has to land in a loop that is still open.

Port Dover is the harbour village next along this shore. The Grand River overnight is a Brantford trip. The Pinery dunes belong to London.
