Miquelon Lake Provincial Park is the night, powered pads in mixed-forest loops around a kettle lake south of Sherwood Park. Book the pad before you book the van. Alberta Parks opens reservations 90 days ahead for the May 13 to October 12 season, as of August 2026, and the powered loop is the part that goes first on a long weekend.
The road from Sherwood Park is Highway 21 south of New Sarepta, then Highway 623 east. Pull-throughs are in those loops if you want one, 15 or 30 amp at the pedestal, load capped at 24 amps. Showers and a dump station run in season, and the water is off from early September through late May. The lake is an Important Bird Area and not suitable for swimming, so this is a walking and dark-sky night rather than a beach one.
Fifteen kilometres of multi-use trail run out from the loops. After dark, the day-use shore is where you sit.
If the van comes up short on beds or length, those same loops take a larger RV rental in Sherwood Park.
Once Elk Island's frontcountry campground closes after Thanksgiving, Parks Canada lists Miquelon as the winter alternative. Eighteen A-loop sites stay first come, with power, no water hookups, and no sani-dump. Self-register with cash or cheque.
Elk Island and the Beaver Hills day
Bison are the reason to drive north, and Elk Island's south gate is on Highway 16 East from Sherwood Park. Walk the Living Waters Boardwalk, then come back to Miquelon for the night, or take the Edmonton campervan page if you would rather sleep inside the park.
Three kilometres east of that gate, the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village is wooden churches and farm buildings on gravel roads, livestock in the yards. Overnight parking is not allowed, so it is a stop rather than a night.
