Waterfalls on Western Brook Pond often turn to mist before they hit the water. The boat shows it after the walk in from the lot, with live interpretation as you move up the fjord inside Gros Morne National Park. Parks Canada recommends reservations for the tour.
Route 431 between Woody Point and Trout River puts the Tablelands on one side of the yellow centre line, the Earth's mantle pushed up as orange barren rock against the green mountain across the road. The Tablelands Trail is the easy walk onto that rock, with Woody Point and Trout River the towns on either end.
Sleep at Gros Morne, and book that campground before the van. Berry Hill is the central campground, with serviced sites and trails that leave from camp. Trout River and Lomond stay unserviced.
The peak-season campgrounds run late May into late September as of September 2026. Green Point stays open the rest of the year unserviced by self-registration, the overflow if you arrive late. Rocky Harbour is the park-side town, and Deer Lake is the inland stop on the way in.
Terra Nova National Park and Newman Sound
At Newman Sound, forest meets the ocean inside Terra Nova National Park, with a day-use stretch on the coastline. The overnight is a serviced site in the trees, and the campground runs mid-May into mid-October, with fewer services once the peak weeks end.
Twillingate and Iceberg Alley
Off Twillingate, icebergs come down Iceberg Alley from spring into early summer. They show as an arch with sky through it, a blue edge against the cliffs, or a turquoise pool of melt on top.
Dildo Run Provincial Park holds the campground on New World Island, with hookups on some sites and the Black Head trail to a lookout over the bay. The Fogo Island ferry leaves from this side of the island. Most sites take larger RVs, and if you need more sleeping space than a campervan, look at RV rentals in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Bonavista Peninsula
Lockston Path Provincial Park calls itself a great base camp for all nearby attractions on the Bonavista Peninsula, with Trinity and Bonavista the towns you drive. A sandy beach on Freshwater Pond is the swim, and moose sometimes wander the campsites or stand in the pond. For the Avalon and nights in the capital, start in St. John's.
L'Anse aux Meadows and the Northern Peninsula
Parks Canada calls L'Anse aux Meadows the first known evidence of European presence in the Americas. Timber-and-sod buildings face cliffs, bog, and coastline, with costumed Norse interpreters on the grounds, which stay open June into early October as of September 2026. Pistolet Bay Provincial Park's campground is unserviced and minutes from the site on Route 437, and St. Anthony is the town at the tip.
Labrador is a separate trip, not a side loop from this island week. The Nova Scotia side of the crossing is North Sydney, and Marine Atlantic runs year-round to Port aux Basques in about seven hours and to Argentia as a seasonal overnight, as of September 2026. Newfoundland and Labrador's transportation department says to avoid driving at night if possible, because moose are extremely difficult to see at night.
