Winter Island Park on Salem Harbor

For a Boston weekend you sleep on Salem Harbor and spend the days in town, at Fenway, or at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. October and Patriots Day weekend compete for those same pads. Stadium lots take a van for the game and send you back to the harbor at night.

Baseball stadium in Boston MA

Harbor camping, Patriots Day, and Gillette gamedays

Fort Pickering's lighthouse stands at the end of the point at Winter Island Park, and the pads sit beside the cove where Salem's working boats and the sailing program are already moving in the morning. Fort Pickering's 1643 earthworks share that point, and the walk to open water never leaves the park. By evening you have been in Salem's streets and back on the pad, with the harbor still next to the van.

October's Haunted Happenings fills downtown Salem, and the campground is inside that same city. The harbor sites go first, so you book the pad before the van. In season the RV pads run water and electric. You walk into Salem from the pad, do downtown on foot, and drive into Boston only for the day you actually need.

Length is capped site by site on the city fee schedule, from 20 feet to 45 feet as of September 2026. Some pads only take a short van, so match the rig to the reservation. If you need more sleeping space or a longer rig, use Boston RV rentals.

Patriots Day and Gillette Stadium

Patriots Day, the third Monday in April, stacks the Marathon finish on Boylston Street with a morning Red Sox home opener at Fenway, and the two crowds meet in Kenmore Square. Fall Patriots games, Revolution matches, and concerts at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough compete for the same vans and the same Winter Island sites. A Fenway lot or a Gillette space is parking for the event, and the van still needs a reserved pad at night.

On a Patriots Sunday, Lot 52 fills with oversize vehicles before kickoff, off Route 1 in Foxborough. Overnight parking is not allowed in stadium lots as of September 2026. After the game you still sleep at Winter Island in Salem, or at Wompatuck State Park on the Quincy campervan page if you want to stay south of the city.

A ferry gets you to the Boston Harbor Islands, with no vehicles landing and tent camping only, and Walden Pond in Concord is a tree-lined shore where camping is not permitted, trips written up on the Quincy campervan page and the Cambridge campervan page. A Cape Cod week of pond camping and National Seashore time is on the Cape Cod campervan page. Plymouth's forest campground and the canal beach overnight are on the Plymouth campervan page, and Harold Parker State Forest in North Andover and Salisbury Beach State Reservation are on the Andover campervan page. The Berkshires and the rest of the state are on Massachusetts campervan rentals.
