Halfway across the Verrazano Bridge the marsh opens flat on both sides, and on the far end the wild horses of Assateague graze between the campsites with the surf beach just over the dune. That crossing is the part of a Maryland shore week everyone remembers, and it keeps families coming back to this corner below Ocean City. The nights mostly happen on the mainland side of the bay, at resorts where the rig stays put for the week and the kids get a water park, a pier, and a boardwalk town up the road.
Most families run it as a parked week, with one resort booking, Ocean City's beach and boardwalk by day, and a couple of trips over the bridge for horses and surf. Summer on this coast is humid, and the sites with power for the air conditioning are the ones that go first. That one fact shapes the rest of the planning.
Frontier Town, Sun Outdoors Ocean City, and the Assateague loops
Frontier Town gives the kids the most to do without leaving the gate, with covered wagons, a water park, and a pier on Sinepuxent Bay that anchors a 75-slip marina. Sun Outdoors Frontier Town shows a season from early April to late November, as of October 2026, which stretches the shore week well past Labor Day crowds.
Sun Outdoors Ocean City, the former Castaways, is the resort families usually weigh against it. Its RV sites come with full hookups, and its own page shows a season from late March to early November, as of October 2026. Pick one and stay. Nobody needs to move the motorhome once it is level.
Sleeping on the island itself means horses wandering past the picnic table and a short walk to the Atlantic. At Assateague State Park, electric hookups run in the G and I loops only, at 30 amps, per Maryland DNR, so a July night anywhere else in the park goes without air conditioning unless a generator runs it. Book one of those loop sites first and rent the rig second. The National Seashore keeps its own campgrounds on the same island.
For two people who want a night or two on the dunes, the island overnight is a smaller-vehicle trip, and the Maryland campervan page has it.
When the week is booked on the mainland, Assateague becomes the day drive down Route 611. Go early for the horses, come back for the pool in the afternoon, and the rig never leaves its site.
Plenty of the travel trailers in the listings never need towing by you. Some owners deliver to a booked site at Frontier Town, Sun Outdoors Ocean City, or Assateague State Park and set the trailer up before you arrive. That is listing by listing, never a given, and the campsite reservation is still yours to make.
Washington from Cherry Hill Park in College Park
The capital makes the other Maryland week, with the rig parked at Cherry Hill Park in College Park and the city as the day trip. Days go to the Mall, the Smithsonian museums, and the monuments, and evenings end on a concrete pad, with a brick patio and picnic table if you booked a premium site. The same family has run the park since 1921, by its own account.
Every site carries full hookups with 30 and 50 amp electric, sewer, and water, and the premium pull-throughs are the largest pads on the property, per Cherry Hill Park. The park stays open all year, so it's the winter rig week when the shore resorts have closed, and an easy first night for a family heading east to the coast afterward.
Past the shore and the capital, Deep Creek Lake in the mountains of the far west, Greenbrier, and Point Lookout at the mouth of the Potomac round out the state, and Maryland's campervan page covers them night by night.
