Galveston's seawall ends long before the island does, and San Luis Pass Road just keeps going, down the West End with the beach on one side and the bay behind the houses on the other. Out there, toward the tip of the island, is where a Houston family parks the rig for a beach week. The sun comes out of the Gulf over the first coffee under the awning, and the motorhome doesn't move again until it's time to go home.
The only driving left is the odd run into town for groceries. The kids are in the water before breakfast, lunch comes out of the galley, and nobody packs a bag to get back to a hotel.
A motorhome earns its keep on a parked week like this. A family of six gets beds, a kitchen, a bathroom and air conditioning a few steps from the sand, and when the waves turn rough there's a pool day instead. Summer is the busy beach season and also the Gulf's storm season, so the days before you leave are for watching the forecast as much as packing.
When the island is booked solid or July feels like too much sun, Houston's other rig weekend points north into the Piney Woods, to Lake Livingston, Lake Conroe and Huntsville, and The Woodlands RV page covers those lake weeks.
Dellanera RV Park and Jamaica Beach on the West End
Dellanera RV Park puts the Gulf right past the rig, and by afternoon the boogie boards are drying on the steps. The City of Galveston runs it, and its park page lists water, sewer and electric hookups at the sites on San Luis Pass Road. It's close to the island's end, so a rig that leaves Houston late in the day is better off spending the first night at a Houston-side park such as Summer Breeze USA in Katy and rolling onto the island in the morning.
Jamaica Beach RV Resort is the one the kids lobby for. Its lazy river and beach pool fill the afternoons, and the Gulf is still there for the morning swim. Every site is a pull-through on a level concrete pad with full hookups and 30 and 50 amp service, according to the resort's amenities page, so the motorhome slides in after the drive without anyone backing it up.
Galveston Island State Park and the alligators at Brazos Bend suit a shorter trip for two in a smaller rig, and the Houston campervan page has both as overnights. Farther down the coast, Matagorda Bay gets its own beach week on the Katy RV page, and the rest of the Texas shoreline for a rig is on the Texas RV page.
RodeoHouston week at NRG Park
RodeoHouston runs three weeks every March at NRG Park, and a good rodeo night ends in the shuttle line with the stadium lit up behind you. Visitors reach the grounds on buses from satellite lots, per the rodeo's parking and transportation page, which makes a rig parked outside the Loop a comfortable base for several rodeo nights in a row. Breakfast happens at the dinette, the kids nap before the evening rodeo, and nobody hunts for a hotel near the grounds.
On the west side, Summer Breeze USA RV Resort in Katy is where the rig waits out the days between rodeo nights. Its RV sites page lists full hookups on pull-through and back-in sites of 50 feet or longer, with super sites to 65 feet, as of September 2026.
Spring break lands on the same March calendar, and the rodeo crowd and the Galveston crowd draw on the same Houston motorhomes and the same full-hookup pads in town and on the island. Treat rodeo week and a March beach week as one booking problem, and reserve the site early.
