Aspen groves along the Reverend's Ridge loop have gone full gold by the last week of September, bright stands set into slopes of cold, dark pine. Golden Gate Canyon State Park fills a long stretch of foothills west of Boulder, and its ridge campground is far enough in that the phones stop finding a signal. The days sort themselves out from there, with a trail loop through the aspen in the morning, lunch back at the site, and an afternoon where nobody asks what the wifi password is.
A family motorhome or a trailer parked for the week suits that kind of stillness, because the ridge has electric hook-ups that run the furnace through cold mountain nights and keep the fridge going without a generator. Nobody breaks camp between hikes, so the rig holds the same site from the first night to the last while the aspen turn overhead.
Reverend's Ridge through the aspen week
From Boulder, Highway 46 is the road into the park, and Reverend's Ridge waits on its Gilpin County side. The first evening goes to getting level and plugged in before dark. By midweek the weekend crowd has gone back down the hill, and the trails and the gold slopes feel like they belong to whoever stayed.
The campground is reservation-only, with sites bookable up to six months ahead as of September 2026, and the gold-aspen weekends go first because the whole Front Range knows when they are. Lock the site first and rent the rig second, since the site you land decides how much rig you can bring.
Come down from the mountains late with nothing booked and the Boulder County Fairgrounds campground in Longmont takes rigs first-come with no reservations, trailers parked in rows under the foothills at the edge of town. For a full-hookup park on the Golden side, the Evergreen RV page covers the bases west of Denver.
Boulder's close-in classics, the Flatirons, Eldorado Canyon, Brainard Lake under the Indian Peaks and the campgrounds along the Peak-to-Peak, suit a tighter trip for two, and the Boulder campervan page has them. Rocky Mountain National Park gets its own RV page, with the park's campgrounds and the Estes Park base.
