Goose Spit, Kye Bay, and Kin Beach

Comox is the sand spit into the harbour and the tidal flats that look at the Coast Mountains. The van sleeps in town on a small Strait beach. Miracle Beach and Strathcona sit on the Courtenay side of the valley.

Comox peninsula sand and a Strait overnight

Take the van to Goose Spit for the harbour day, then to Kye Bay for the long sand. Sleep at Kin Beach, next to 19 Wing on the Strait. You cannot overnight on the spit or in the Kye Bay lot.

Walk the spit into the harbour, glacier and Island ranges on the skyline. Goose Spit Park (Pelxqikw) is at 10 Hawkins Road, east of town. From March through May, Brant geese stage here and pets stay on leash from 1 March to 20 May.

When fires are allowed, from 1 May to Labour Day, they burn in ten designated rings on the outer beach, CVRD kiln-dried wood only, and they are out by 11 pm. As of August 2026, check the CVRD beach-fire page and the provincial fire-ban list before you count on a ring.

Head out Kye Bay Road for the tidal flats. The Coast Mountains sit across the Strait. Day-use only.

The valley floor stays wet from October through March. July and August are the dry stretch. August's BC Day weekend fills in-town beds for Filberg Festival and Comox Nautical Days, so book Kin Beach before you arrive.

Seal Bay Nature Park

Hike Seal Bay after Kye Bay. Trails drop through fir and sword fern to a cobble beach where harbour seals haul out, and the walk back up is steep. The park, Xwee Xwhya Luq to the K’ómoks, sits about 12 km north of town.

Park at 2201 Hardy Road or 2100 Bates Road. Day-use only. Sleep at Kin Beach. Dogs stay leashed year-round on the water side of Bates Road and on Melda Marsh Loop, and the entire park is leashed from 1 April to 30 June.

Kin Beach

The campground sits on cobble and rock, fir overhead, in a residential corner of Comox beside the air base. From the top of Ryan Road, just before the 19 Wing entrance, turn left on Little River Road, right on Kilmorley Road, and stay left into the park. A small store sits at the day-use lot, and there are no developed trails.

If Kin Beach is full, Cape Lazo RV Park at 685 Lazo Road stays open year-round with full-service sites close to the beach. If you need a bigger rig on hookups, use British Columbia RV rentals.

Strathcona, Forbidden Plateau, and Miracle Beach are a Courtenay trip.
