The rig settles onto a grass-edged pad with Temecula's vineyard hills rising behind the rows, and for the whole week it stays put. The days go to the tasting rooms along the wine roads, and the evenings come back to the same site with the awning out. Summer in the valley runs hot, and the full hookups keep the air conditioning on through the afternoon. At Pechanga RV Resort the kids take over the heated pool in those hours while the adults claim one of the two spas, and nobody has broken camp all week.
Vail Lake Resort, home to the Temecula KOA, is the shadier version of the same week. Sites sit under oaks with the lake water beyond them, and bike and hiking trails leave straight from the pads. A family can spend the morning on the trails and still make the wineries by afternoon.
Reserve the resort before you book the rig, because the site you get decides which motorhome fits. Pechanga has full hookups on every site, with pull-through and back-in pads as of September 2026. Vail Lake runs more than 200 full-hookup RV sites across the property, and it's worth giving the resort your rig's length when you call.
Plenty of the trailers in the listings never need towing by you. Their owners deliver them to Pechanga or Vail Lake and set them up on the pad, listing by listing, so the family drives in with its own car and finds the rig level and plugged in.
For two people on a wine weekend, or a night at Lake Skinner Recreation Area instead of a resort, a campervan is the easier fit, and the Temecula campervan page covers that trip.
Hurkey Creek and Idyllwild, up CA-74 onto the San Jacinto ridge
After the wine week, the second trip climbs CA-74 from the west into the San Jacinto Mountains, where the air smells of pine and cedar instead of warm vineyard dust. Hurkey Creek Regional Park spreads its loops around a meadow under those trees, with a seasonal creek running through the sites. The county park sits four miles southeast of Mountain Center, with 130 campsites and stays up to 14 days, long enough to park the rig for the rest of the week and let the kids run the meadow.
Hurkey Creek is a dry stay for a rig. The county lists no full hookups, takes self-contained vehicles, and has no dump station in the park, with the nearest one at Lake Hemet about a mile east. Arrive with a full fresh tank and empty holding tanks, then dump at Lake Hemet on the way out, or end the ridge at Idyllwild Regional Park, where 88 forested campsites share a dump station on site.
