Woods close in around the campsite loops at Nickerson State Park in Brewster, and the trails from the sites run down to the ponds. This is the Cape Cod week families come back to, a swim before the day warms up and then the beaches and the towns farther down the Cape. On the Upper Cape at East Falmouth, Sun Retreats Cape Cod builds the same week around a private resort instead, with a lake, a sandy beach and three pools for the days nobody wants to leave the campground.
Nickerson is the site to lock in before you choose a motorhome. The state lists more than 400 campsites for tents, trailers and RVs, and summer on the Cape still fills them, so book the pad first and size the rig to it. Registered campers have a dump station on site, which keeps a full week parked in the woods simple to run.
The East Falmouth resort suits a group that wants the campground itself to be the vacation, with RV and tent sites on the same grounds. Its public page doesn't spell out hookups or pad lengths, so confirm both on the site you reserve. Cape Cod Campresort and Cabins, also in East Falmouth, and Peters Pond RV Resort in Sandwich are two more private parks on the Cape to check.
The Berkshires from a foothill hookup base
West on I-90, the Berkshires trade sand and salt water for hill towns, ridge trails and the fall color that fills every campground at once. Mt. Greylock Campsite Park puts the rig in the Lanesborough foothills under Mount Greylock, a base for a week of hikes and hill-town days. It runs Large sites up to 40 feet and Standard sites up to 24 feet, pull-through and back-in in both, with 20/30/50 amp power, water and gray-water disposal at every RV site and a black-water dump station on the grounds.
Farther south at Granville, Prospect Mountain Campground has full-hookup pull-through sites with 20/30/50 amp service for anyone who would rather not back in at all. October Mountain State Forest in Lee is the quiet night of the trip, a forest campground with no lights in the loops because its RV sites have no electricity. Run it dry, fill up at a hookup park beforehand, and use the forest's dump station on the way out. Each fall the Big E in West Springfield pulls the whole region to the fairgrounds, butter sculpture out front of the Mallary Complex and all. The fair holds a limited number of spaces at Gate 9 for self-contained rigs, first come, first served, which works for a motorhome that can spend a night without hookups between Berkshire campgrounds.
Boston's hookup bases at Foxboro and Littleton
Boston has no campground inside the city, so a rig week there runs from a base in the suburbs, and either one makes an easy first night before the Cape or the hills. Normandy Farms at Foxboro is the big resort south of the city, with the commuter rail for days downtown, and the Boston RV page has its site details. Boston Minuteman Campground at Littleton is the northwest base for Harvard Square and Minute Man National Historical Park, covered on the Cambridge RV page.
