By the third evening at Longview Lake, the week has found its rhythm. Supper comes off the grill at the picnic table with the shore just past the concrete pad, and whoever walked the trail is back before dark. Inside, the motorhome's air has held the cool through the heat of the afternoon. Families from Independence, Lee's Summit and over the state line in Overland Park run this week without leaving the metro, and visitors get a lake and Kansas City barbecue inside the same short drive.
Jackson County Parks and Rec runs three lake campgrounds like this on the east side of town, at Longview Lake, Blue Springs Lake, and Lake Jacomo in Fleming Park. They suit a parked week, with full-hookup sites where the rig stays plugged in and level for seven nights while the outings stay short. Summer here is hot and humid, and power and water at the pad are what keep a family comfortable in a motorhome through July.
Longview Lake through September
Longview is the summer lake, and it has the widest mix of sites of the three. The county's Longview page lists premier full-hookup pads on concrete alongside full hookup, electric and water, electric, and tent sites, and for a July week with kids the premier and full-hookup sites are the ones to want. The season runs April through September, which makes Longview the first of the three to close.
Blue Springs Lake and Lake Jacomo into October
Blue Springs Lake and Lake Jacomo keep going after Longview shuts for the year, and October is the month to go, with cool nights, the furnace on instead of the air, and the lake close by the pads. Blue Springs Campground has an attendant on duty daily in season and a laundry, which matters by day five with kids, and its sites run from premier full-hookup concrete pads through full hookup, electric and water, and electric.
Over in Fleming Park, Jacomo Campground has premier full-hookup concrete pads, full hookup, and electric sites. Both campgrounds run April through the end of October. Visitors book Blue Springs as a base for Royals and Chiefs games, and in the fall the lake week and the football weekend often turn into the same trip.
Booking a county lake site
Book the lake site before the motorhome, since the site decides the week. Longview and Blue Springs take reservations through Jackson County's online system, and the county lists sites by type, so choose the pad you want and fit the rental to it. A couple on a long weekend usually wants a smaller vehicle and a different trip, and the Missouri River bluffs at Weston Bend and the state park nights at Smithville Lake, Watkins Mill, Truman Lake and Knob Noster are on the Kansas City campervan page.
Chiefs Sunday at Arrowhead
On a Chiefs home Sunday, the motorhomes line up in Dubiner Circle behind Kauffman Stadium with awnings out and grills going, and the spiral ramps of Arrowhead rise beyond the lot. Kansas City tailgates seriously, and a rig turns game day into a full day, with breakfast cooked in your own kitchen, a real bathroom, and a place to sit out the traffic after the game.
Class A and Class C motorhomes 25 feet or longer need a Bus/RV pass and are directed to Dubiner Circle on a first come, first served basis, according to Arrowhead's parking page as of October 2026. For the nights around the game, a county lake site works as the weekend base early in the season, and KC Stadium RV Park is a private park with full-hookup sites, water, sewer and 50- and 30-amp power, set up for short event stays.
September and October home weekends land on the county's last good lake weekends, so the game crowd and the lake crowd are after the same motorhomes and the same premier pads. Treat the game and the campsite as one booking and lock both early.
Race weekends at the Speedway are on the Kansas City, Kansas RV page. For a longer lake week farther south, the Missouri RV page covers Lake of the Ozarks and Branson.
