A Pacific City evening ends on the beach under Cape Kiwanda, where the dories sit hauled up on the sand and Haystack Rock stands offshore across the road from camp. The dune face on the cape is the first thing the kids climb and the thing they go back to every morning, sliding down toward the water while you walk out toward the rock. Families settle in here for the week, setting the rig up once under the cape and running the rest of the Three Capes coast north as day drives.
Getting there is under a half-day from Hillsboro, out OR-6 over the Coast Range to Tillamook and south along the coast to Pacific City. Leave in the morning and the rig is set up well before that first evening on the sand.
Home for the week is Hart's Camp, the park formerly called Cape Kiwanda RV Resort. Its back-in and pull-through sites run from 20 to 45 feet, with full hookups and 50/30 amp power as of September 2026, and that spread is wide enough that the site you get decides the rig you can bring. Reserve the site first, then rent the motorhome or trailer that fits it.
A site at the short end of that range, or a trip with just two of you, suits something smaller, and the Hillsboro campervan trips cover the closer-in nights at Stub Stewart, Hagg Lake and the Tualatin Valley wineries, plus the forest camps along OR-6.
The Three Capes drive to Netarts Bay and Cape Meares
The day north follows the Three Capes Scenic Route out of Pacific City, along the shore of Netarts Bay and up to Cape Meares at the far end. Leave the motorhome hooked up at Hart's Camp and do the drive in a tow car or a second vehicle, so dinner and beds are waiting when you get back. If your trailer came behind your own truck, that truck is already the day car.
Between the two, the Cape Lookout headland runs far out into the Pacific from the Netarts spit. Cape Lookout State Park is normally the hookup campground on this stretch, but its campground and day-use area closed in August 2026 for utility upgrades, with work expected through spring 2027, so as of September 2026 the week runs from Pacific City instead.
Heading the other way, Lincoln City and the beaches south of Pacific City are the coast trip on the McMinnville RV page.
Barview Jetty at Rockaway Beach
At Barview the campsites are set back in the sandhill dunes behind Rockaway Beach, a short walk from the jetty at the mouth of Tillamook Bay. This is the other way to do the coast: a parked week on one stretch of sand, where the days split between the jetty and the beach and the rig never moves.
Tillamook County runs Barview with full-hookup RV sites and takes reservations six months out, so hold the site before you rent. Past Rockaway, Nehalem Bay and Fort Stevens make up the north-coast loop on the Portland RV page.
