Pet-friendly RV rentals

Pet rules come from the rental company or, on Outdoorsy and RVshare, from each owner. Search with the Pets filter on, then read the listing before you book.

As of October 2026, Cruise America, Indie Campers and El Monte RV all take pets with no upfront pet fee. On Outdoorsy and RVshare, each owner sets the rule for their own RV. The search box above already has the Pets filter on, so start there and use the rest of this page to check what you find.

How pet policies work at each rental company

Outdoorsy and RVshare list RVs owned by private hosts, and each host sets the pet rule for their own vehicle. Outdoorsy's guest FAQ says many of its hosts are pet lovers, and tells renters to check the rules section of each listing and ask the host about size limits and fees. RVshare says the same in its pet-friendly rental pages: pet rules, fees and deposits are set by the owner. The upside of a marketplace is range, since every listing sets its own terms.

Cruise America allows pets in its motorhomes. Its rental FAQ lists no pet fee, as of October 2026. You agree to clean up after the animal and return the RV in the condition you got it, or pay a cleaning fee of up to $250.

Indie Campers allows one pet per campervan, free of charge, according to its traveling with pets help article (October 2026). A pet over 30 kg, about 66 pounds, makes the After-Trip Cleaning extra mandatory. For a lighter pet it's optional.

El Monte RV welcomes dogs and cats with no upfront pet fee or deposit, per its guide to RV travel with pets. A cleaning or damage fee can apply after the return inspection if the pet leaves a mess. How many pets you can bring varies, so confirm it when you book. El Monte is also where the THL family sends pet owners: its sister brand Road Bear RV's FAQ points travelers with animals to El Monte.

What a pet fee looks like

Among the fleet companies above, none charged an upfront pet fee as of October 2026. The money you might pay is a cleaning or damage charge after the trip, and Cruise America caps its cleaning fee at $250.

On Outdoorsy and RVshare, the owner sets any pet fee or deposit, and it shows up on the listing. If you can't find it, message the owner before you book rather than after.

How to use the Pets filter here

The search box at the top of this page sends your search with Pets turned on. Type a city, add dates if you have them, and search. You land on the regular results page with the filter already applied.

Owner-listed RVs from Outdoorsy and RVshare come back only when the owner allows pets. Results from the fleet companies follow each company's own policy, so check it above before you book. If you'd rather start from a place, the RV rental hub and the campervan rental hub list the cities people book most.

What to check in a listing before you book

A "pet-friendly" label tells you pets are allowed. It doesn't tell you which pets or on what terms. Before you pay, look for:

  • Size and number. Owners can set size limits and a cap on how many. Indie Campers' one-pet rule is fleet-wide.
  • The fee and the deposit. Note whether the deposit is refundable and what a cleaning charge would cost.
  • Furniture rules. Some owners ask that pets stay off beds and seats, or that you bring a crate.
  • Leaving the pet alone. An RV heats up fast in the sun. If you plan to leave your dog inside while you eat out, ask whether the owner allows it and whether the air conditioning runs without hookups.
  • Campground rules. The RV allowing pets doesn't mean every campground does. Check each stop.

Once you're on the road, the dangers are mostly small ones: ticks, algae blooms, toxic plants. Our guide to hidden dangers for RV dogs covers what to watch for by region.

Pet-friendly RV rental questions

Do service animals count as pets?

On Outdoorsy, no. Its service animal policy defines a service animal as a trained dog, expects hosts to reasonably accommodate one even when the listing says no pets, and bars hosts from charging extra for it. The security deposit still covers damage beyond normal wear. At other companies, ask when you book.

Can I bring a cat?

El Monte RV names cats alongside dogs as welcome. Cruise America and Indie Campers say "pets" without listing species. On the marketplaces it's the owner's call, so ask.

How many pets can I bring?

Indie Campers allows one per vehicle. El Monte RV says the number varies and to confirm when booking. On Outdoorsy and RVshare the owner sets the limit.

Will I get charged if my dog sheds?

The fleet policies above charge when the RV comes back dirtier than it left, so vacuum before you return it. Indie Campers sells an After-Trip Cleaning extra if you'd rather not.
